Research notes
Research notes: the Pterodactyl article supplies the jungle/swamp route, its large-hitbox limitation, and Thick Skin. XP confirms the 25,000 XP interval. The advice is community-sourced and was not timed in a gameplay session.
Child, adult, next
Pterodactyl Child is stage 28, 47,150 to 57,150, 10,000 XP to evolve. Swamp Monster is stage 30 and needs 35,000 XP. Reaching the next stage requires in-session food XP; an account quest reward is not proof of a stage skip.
A sourced route through the 25,000 XP gap
Community guidance starts with jungle Meat, Crabs, Turtles, and Woodpeckers, then considers Crocodiles in the swamp. The listed base rewards include Meat at 500 XP, Pig at 400, and Crab or Turtle at 300. Follow green borders; shared food attracts Dragon and Phoenix, both documented predators.
Thick Skin passively blocks the next attack when ready, with a listed 25-second cooldown. Fire effects bypass it. Pterodactyl's large body cannot fit through many underground passages, so a narrow cave is not a dependable escape. Water in the swamp can remove fire, but reapers still roam there. Prepare an exit before committing to a food cluster; no route is guaranteed safe or fastest.
